Mushtaq’s family loses lone breadwinner: He spoke to me, and a few hours later, I received the news of his death, says his father
October 25, Srinagar: Mushtaq Ahmad Chowdhary, a 27-year-old youth from Nowshera, Baramulla, spoke to his family around 3 pm on Thursday. Just a few hours later, they received the heartbreaking news of his death.
Mushtaq, a civilian porter, was killed in a terrorist attack on a military vehicle near Gulmarg, Baramulla, on Thursday evening. Another civilian porter and three soldiers also lost their lives in the attack.
Recalling their last conversation, Mushtaq’s elderly father told KINS, “My son called me around 3 pm. on Thursday. He asked if I needed any medicines and inquired about his mother and wife. Hours later, we received the news of his death.”
Mushtaq was the sole breadwinner for his family, supporting his elderly parents, a 3-year-old child, and his wife. A relative of the slain porter urged the government to ensure justice for the family.
“His father spends Rs 15,000 every month on medications and other necessities. The government should support the family,” the relative said.
Known in the village for his humble nature and hard work, Mushtaq’s death has left the entire community in mourning. His wife and mother remain in shock, while his young child is too young to understand the family’s tragic loss.
Earlier today, security forces continued search operations in Gulmarg Baramulla following the firefight between the Indian Army and terrorists the previous night.
In an initial post on X, the Srinagar-based Chinar Corps said, “A brief firefight took place between the Indian Army and terrorists in the general area of Butapathri, Baramulla. During the firefight, two soldiers and two porters suffered injuries and were evacuated for medical care.”
In a subsequent update, the Chinar Corps stated that the operation was still ongoing.
