Mirwaiz Umar Farooq Calls for Dialogue with BJP on Kashmir

Srinagar , Oct 25: In a recent address, Hurriyat Conference chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq expressed the group’s readiness to engage with the BJP-led central government in India for a peaceful resolution of the Kashmir issue.

Speaking at Jamia Masjid in Srinagar, he highlighted the Hurriyat’s longstanding stance, established in 1993, on resolving the Kashmir conflict through peaceful dialogue rather than violence, a view that persists even after three decades. He referenced Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s emphasis on dialogue and diplomacy at the BRICS Summit as the preferred means for conflict resolution.

Mirwaiz Umar Farooq also recalled past engagements with leaders such as former Indian Prime Ministers Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Manmohan Singh and former Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf, indicating Hurriyat’s openness to discussions with the current government.

He urged investigations into the recent killings in Jammu and Kashmir’s Ganderbal and Baramulla districts, where several civilians, including non-local laborers, and security personnel were killed in separate attacks, stressing that these incidents, if unchecked, could lead to further escalation of violence in the region.
