SSP Baramulla orders probe after advocate’s altercation with police in Kunzer
Baramulla, Jun 12: An inquiry has been ordered into allegations of misconduct against police personnel at Kunzer police station following an altercation with an advocate, officials said on Friday.
The incident took place on Jun 10 at village Dhobiwan, where a party from Police Station Kunzer was executing a status-quo order issued by the JMIC Tangmarg, they said.
“Legal and preventive proceedings were initiated in accordance with law during the course of the execution of the order,” a police officer said.
An altercation later broke out inside the police station between an advocate and the police personnel, following which allegations were raised regarding the conduct of the personnel during the incident, officials said.
The Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Baramulla, has directed a detailed inquiry into the entire sequence of events to ensure complete transparency, fairness and objectivity, the official said.
The probe has been entrusted to a Gazetted Officer, who shall examine all aspects of the incident including the conduct of all persons involved, the circumstances leading to the registration of the case, and any allegations of misconduct or use of force.
“Statements of all concerned persons shall be recorded and all available evidence examined,” the official added.
District Police Baramulla reiterated its commitment to the rule of law and respect for all stakeholders, including members of the legal fraternity, officials said.
It has been assured that if any lapse, misconduct or deviation from established procedures on the part of any police personnel is found during the inquiry, appropriate action shall be taken and accountability ensured strictly in accordance with law, the police said.
The investigation into the registered case as well as the departmental inquiry shall proceed independently on merits, officials said.
The public has been requested not to be guided by speculation or unverified information and to allow the due process of law to take its course the officer further added. (KNS)
