Srinagar Police Holds Thana Diwas/Lok Darbar to Strengthen Public Outreach and Grievance Redressal
Srinagar, April 10 : As part of the Jammu & Kashmir Government’s ongoing public outreach initiative, Srinagar Police on Thursday observed Thana Diwas/Lok Darbar across various police stations and posts in the district, reinforcing its commitment to community engagement and transparent policing.
In the first phase for April 2025, the programme was conducted across 13 Police Stations and 2 Police Posts throughout Srinagar. The events were chaired by supervisory officers and jurisdictional police officials, with active participation from members of civil society, including Auqaf Committee representatives, traders’ and transporters’ unions, Panchayati Raj members, religious leaders, and local elders.
During the sessions, participants raised several concerns of public significance, particularly those falling within the police’s purview—such as illegal drug trafficking, sand extraction by mafias, traffic congestion, and issues related to transient populations. Concerns linked to civil departments—like road maintenance, sanitation, public health, and electricity—were also noted for referral to the concerned authorities.
SSP Srinagar, while speaking on the occasion, emphasized that Thana Diwas/Lok Darbar serves as a vital channel to connect directly with the community. “It is our responsibility to ensure that every citizen’s voice is heard and their issues are addressed promptly. We remain steadfast in our mission to ensure a safe and secure environment for all,” he said.
Citizens were encouraged to collaborate with the police in eradicating the drug menace and identifying anti-national or anti-social elements to maintain law and order. Community leaders reciprocated by assuring their continued cooperation to strengthen police-public ties.
By hosting Thana Diwas/Lok Darbar, Srinagar Police continues to promote transparency, grassroots-level accountability, and meaningful dialogue—fostering trust and collective responsibility for safer communities.
