IGP Kashmir Chairs High-Level Security Review for NEET Re-Exam, Amarnath Yatra
Directs Foolproof Arrangements, Strict SOP Enforcemen
Srinagar, June 18 : Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir Zone, V.K. Birdi, on Thursday chaired a high-level security review meeting to assess preparedness for the NEET UG-2026 Re-Examination and the upcoming Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra (SANJY)-2026, directing officers to ensure foolproof security, strict enforcement of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and seamless inter-agency coordination.
The meeting was convened to review security deployment, traffic management, public facilitation, and overall preparedness to ensure the smooth, transparent, and incident-free conduct of both the national-level examination and the annual pilgrimage.
Reviewing preparations for the NEET UG re-examination, the IGP directed officers to maintain heightened vigilance at all examination centres and ensure strict compliance with prescribed guidelines. He stressed the need for adequate police deployment for crowd management, access control, and maintenance of law and order around examination venues .
Birdi instructed officers to conduct thorough frisking and verification of candidates at entry points in close coordination with examination authorities to prevent any security breach. He also emphasized secure transportation, storage, and handling of confidential examination material. To facilitate candidates, traffic authorities were directed to ensure smooth vehicular movement and avoid congestion around examination centres .
The meeting also extensively reviewed security arrangements for the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra-2026. Stressing the significance of the annual pilgrimage, the IGP underscored the need for coordinated efforts among all security and civil agencies to ensure a safe, peaceful, and successful Yatra.
District SSPs were directed to personally supervise security arrangements in their respective jurisdictions and ensure comprehensive security cover for Yatra convoys through effective deployment, continuous monitoring, and prompt response mechanisms .
The IGP further instructed officers to strictly implement convoy movement schedules and cut-off timings while ensuring regulations are enforced efficiently with minimum inconvenience to the general public. He emphasized strengthening security along the Pahalgam and Baltal routes, including anti-sabotage checks, area domination, and deployment at vulnerable locations .
The meeting was attended by IGP Traffic, Range DIGs, DIG Traffic, SSP PCR Kashmir, district SSPs, and other senior officers .
Birdi called upon officers to remain alert, strengthen inter-agency coordination, and ensure effective execution of security and traffic management plans to safeguard public safety and facilitate the smooth conduct of both events across Kashmir. (KNS)
