Elderly Woman Dies After Coming in Contact With Electric Pole in Srinagar Amid Massive Inundation
Srinagar, June 22: A 65-year-old woman died after she was allegedly electrocuted upon coming into contact with an electric pole in the Naidkadal area of Srinagar’s old city on Monday.
The deceased has been identified as Shameema, wife of late Ghulam Nabi Makdhoomi, a resident of Shamspora.
According to eyewitnesses, the incident occurred near Rangar Masjid when the woman came into contact with an electric pole amid waterlogged conditions caused by rainfall.
Witnesses said lanes and bylanes in the locality had been inundated following rain, resulting in the accumulation of water in residential areas.
The woman reportedly collapsed on the spot after receiving the electric shock. She was immediately shifted to a hospital. However, doctors declared her dead, officials said.
The incident has raised concerns among locals regarding public safety during periods of waterlogging, particularly in densely populated areas where electric installations are located close to pedestrian routes.
Police from MR Gunj Police Station reached the spot and completed the necessary legal formalities before handing over the body to the family for last rites.
Police have taken cognizance of the incident and initiated proceedings. [KNT]
