NC MP Urges Centre To Extend Kashmir Rail Link To Border District Kupwara
New Delhi, Feb 6: National Conference leader and Member of Parliament Chowdry Mohammad Ramzan on Friday urged the Centre to extend the railway network in Kashmir from Baramulla to the frontier district of Kupwara and Karnah. He stated that this extension would provide a reliable transport alternative to a region which frequently becomes isolated due to heavy snowfall.
Raising the issue in Parliament, Ramzan highlighted the severe winter hardships faced by the local population when road connectivity is severed.
The MP said, “The border district faces immense difficulties, particularly in handling medical emergencies involving pregnant women and critically ill patients during the winter months.
The transportation of the deceased also becomes a major challenge.”
He emphasised that a railway link would serve as a “vital lifeline” for the remote area, ensuring consistent connectivity and access to essential services.
Ramzan sought the intervention of the Central government for the early sanction and execution of the railway extension project in the region. (KNS)
