Silence Prevails, All India Radio Srinagar Goes Mute For Fourth Consecutive Day

The airwaves in Kashmir have fallen silent as All India Radio (AIR) Srinagar remains inactive for the fourth consecutive day. What was once a reliable source of information and entertainment for the region, especially in remote areas where television access is limited, has now left listeners in dismay.

According to officials speaking to the PTK, technical glitches have rendered the radio station mute, depriving listeners of their favorite programs and news updates on both medium and short wave frequencies. The issue, stemming from the failure of the Narbal transmitter, has persisted despite ongoing efforts by engineers to rectify it.

This transmission breakdown marks a significant setback for AIR Srinagar, reminiscent of the challenges faced during the catastrophic floods of 2014 when the station’s building was inundated. However, unlike the natural disaster that engulfed the facility, this current predicament is solely attributed to technical failures.

The reliance on AIR Srinagar extends beyond mere entertainment; it serves as a lifeline for communities in rural and remote areas, where access to satellite television remains a luxury beyond reach for many. For them, the radio has been a steadfast companion, providing essential information and a sense of connection to the outside world.

As engineers continue their efforts to restore services, the prolonged silence serves as a stark reminder of the vulnerability of communication infrastructure and the enduring importance of traditional media platforms. Until normalcy returns to the airwaves, listeners in Kashmir remain in limbo, eagerly awaiting the resumption of familiar voices and cherished broadcasts.(PTK)
