Kupwara: The Sadiq Memorial Educational Institute (SMEI) Kupwara celebrated World Environment Day with fervour and great enthusiasm on Wednesday.
The students of the institute performed several programs related to environmental issues. The students also recited poems on nature. On this occasion District Officer JKPCC was the chief guest.

Speaking about the importance of celebrating World Environment Day, District Officer JKPCC Kupwara Mohd Yousuf Mir said that Young people should voluntarily take part in keeping their surroundings neat and clean. He added that we all should do our bit in ensuring that we would do everything possible to keep this universe safe from every types of pollution.
The students showed keen interest in knowing the importance of environment and responsibility towards safeguarding the environment.

In order to sensitise the students on the issues of climate change and depletion of natural resources, students of SMEI took part in poster making and slogan writing activities. Such activities also honed their creative skills.
The principal of the SME institute Tabassum Farooq, in her address highlighted the collective responsibility to educate children about the environment and to encourage and motivate them to heal and preserve “our environment for our future generation”.
