Kupwara Police Foils Drug Smuggling Attempt, Narcotic Substance Recovered
Kupwara, August 5 2025: Continuing its sustained efforts to eradicate the menace of drug peddling from the society Kupwara Police today apprehended a drug peddler and recovered contraband substance from his possession.
Today a naka (checkpoint) was established by a police party on Lolab Bypass Road near Higher Secondary School Kupwara. During the naka checking a person moving from Kupwara towards Lolab was found behaving suspiciously. On noticing the presence of the naka party the individual attempted to flee the spot but was swiftly overpowered and apprehended by the alert police personnel.
Upon personal search a charas-like substance was recovered from his possession. The contraband was seized on the spot as per the established legal procedure in presence of independent witnesses.
On preliminary questioning, the accused identified himself as Shahid Ahmad Malik
S/O Gh. Nabi Malik
R/O Kupwara.
In this connection Case FIR No. 285/2025 under Sections 8/20 of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Kupwara and further investigation has been taken up to unearth the forward and backward linkages involved in the illicit trade.
