Water levels recede after Jhelum embankment breach in Budgam
Budgam, Sept 5: The District Administration Budgam on Friday said the situation has improved after the breach on the Jhelum embankment at Zoonipora, with water levels receding in the affected villages.
Officials said early signs of reverse flow have been recorded at the breach site, with water moving back from Zoonipora into the Jhelum. They said this has reduced the outpouring towards downstream areas and brought down the water levels in inundated villages.
Relief operations are continuing, with the administration prioritising restoration of essential services such as safe drinking water and electricity. Officials said restoration works and assessment of damages will follow.
“The District Administration remains committed to the safety and relief of all affected communities,” an official statement said.(KNS)
