Amid western disturbance : Kupwara admin issues high alert for 3 days

Fishermen, construction workers warned to stay away from water bodies

Kupwara, Apr April 07: The District Administration Kupwara in north Kashmir has sounded a high alert for the next three days in view of an intense Western Disturbance expected to trigger widespread heavy rain, snowfall, thunderstorms, lightning, gusty winds and hailstorms from April 7 afternoon to April 9 evening.

Authorities have advised people, especially those in vulnerable, avalanche-prone and landslide-prone areas, to avoid all unnecessary travel. Citizens have been urged to stay away from water bodies, streams, nallahs, and irrigation canals. Fishermen, sand extractors and construction workers near water bodies have been specifically warned to remain vigilant.

In a public advisory accessed Deputy Commissioner Kupwara directed all line departments to remain on high readiness. The PWD, R&B, PMGSY, BRO and Mechanical Engineering Department have been asked to keep men and machinery ready for immediate road clearance. The Irrigation and Flood Control Department has been directed to monitor water levels in Pohru and its tributaries round the clock.

KPDCL has been instructed to maintain vigil on power supply lines and deploy rapid response teams for immediate restoration. The Health Department has kept emergency medical teams, ambulances and first-aid facilities on standby at district and block levels.

Police and SDRF remain on alert for evacuation, rescue and crowd management, while dewatering pumps have been kept ready for any flash flood-like situation. Municipal committees have been directed to ensure proper drainage, and the Civil Supplies department has been asked to maintain adequate ration stock, particularly in remote areas.

All Tehsildars and BDOs have been told to remain in close contact with local public representatives. Emergency service officers have been barred from leaving their stations without prior permission.

The District Control Room (941926821), Police Control Room (01955-252204), Fire & Emergency (01955-252222) and ERSS number 112 are fully functional.
