Srinagar-Jammu National Highway Remains Closed After Heavy Rain And Snowfall

SRINAGAR: Following heavy rain and snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir, the crucial Srinagar-Jammu National Highway (NH-44) continues to be blocked due to landslides, mudslides, and shooting stones at multiple locations.

Reports indicate that approximately 2000 vehicles are stranded at various points along the highway. Traffic department officials have confirmed the suspension of traffic movement due to the hazardous conditions caused by landslides.

Efforts are underway by authorities to clear the debris and restore traffic on the vital route, which serves as a lifeline connecting Kashmir to the rest of the country. However, intermittent snowfall, rainfall, and ongoing mudslides and shooting stones between Ramsoo and Banihal have hindered the restoration work.

Updates on the clearance operations along the National Highway indicate that efforts are in progress to reopen the road for traffic.

In light of the situation, the public is advised to refrain from unnecessary travel until the highway is deemed safe for commuting. (PTK)
