DC Kupwara chairs Road Safety Committee meeting, directs concerned to ensure zero tolerance against overloading, other traffic violations

Kupwara, March 27: The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kupwara,  Ayushi Sudan (IAS) today chaired the District Road Safety Committee (DRSC) meeting at Mini-Meeting Hall of DC Office Complex Kupwara to deliberate on enforcement of road safety measures and ensuring smooth traffic flow in the district.

The meeting extensively discussed better management of traffic, including identification of black spots, blind spots, improvement of lighting on vital roads, clearance of ROWs, provision of Trauma centre on national highway.

The Deputy Commisioner also took a detailed report about the tasks assigned to different departments during the previous Road Safety Committee meetings.

The Deputy Commissioner directed all the members to make coordinated efforts to ensure safety on roads and prompt emergency care.

The DC stressed upon all the stakeholder departments to be proactive, work in complete synergy and take all required measures to decongest the main towns of the district for smooth flow of traffic.

The Deputy Commissioner stressed on repairing black spots, initiating remedial measures at blind spots, installation of signage and painting of roads at appropriate spots.

The DC directed the EXens of PHE, PDD, PWD and PMGSY to apply mandatorily in advance for ROW clearance through Gatishakti Portal and be proactive and careful in Row clearance.

Beacon authorities were directed to erect crash barriers and warning signs at National highway particularly at Machil and Karnah roads.

OC Beacon on the occasion appraised the chair that Beacon will soon install crash Bearers on 12- km road area, as they have procured the crash bearers.OC further said that Beacon is also procuring steel wire row- lines for roads of snowbound areas.

EXen R&B Handwara was directed to fill the potholes on Handwara–Sopre road and other important roads of the district , install the longitudinal gradients to control the speed and erect road signage at proper places.
While emphasizing on putting a check on over-loading, curbing other traffic rule violations, and enforcing strict actions against violators, DC said “Over-loading is one of the reason of the accidents in the district, it needs to be checked, and all police nakas in the district will check and challan the overloading of passenger and goods vehicles without fail and take strict action against the violators”.
The Deputy Commissioner also instructed the concerned to increase deployment of police personnel at Kupwara and Handwara towns to address the issue of traffic congestion.

EO Municipal Council Kupwara was directed to identify two more parking slots at Kupwara town and remove all road side and footpath encroachments on Kupwara Bye-Pass road and hospital road.

CMO Kupwara was directed to designate SDH Krlapora as trauma care centre which will cater to the border areas of Karnah, Keran and Chowkibal.

DC directed EXen, R&B Kupwara to increase the pace of work on Lolab Parrel bye-pass road so that hassle-free movement of traffic is ensured.

The meeting was attended by ACR Kupwara, ASP, SE R&B Circle Kupwara, CMO, Executive Engineer R&B Handwara, EXen PMGSY, ARTO Kupwara, OC Beacon, EO MC Kupwara and other committee members.
