Chaotic Scenes Erupt in J&K Assembly as PDP MLA Tables Article 370 Resolution
Srinagar, Nov 04: The Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly witnessed dramatic scenes on Monday when PDP MLA Waheed ur Rehman Para introduced a resolution seeking the restoration of Article 370 for Jammu and Kashmir. Para, in his address, congratulated the newly-elected Speaker and expressed confidence in his leadership before formally submitting the resolution.
The move immediately sparked protests from BJP MLAs, who vocally demanded that the resolution be dismissed. Despite their objections, Speaker Rather sought to maintain order, urging the legislators to allow him to review the resolution. “This is my domain; let me examine it and make a decision,” he stated while attempting to calm the tensions.
Refusing to relent, the 28-member BJP bloc continued their protest, with BJP Leader of Opposition Sharma voicing frustration over the resolution being introduced on the session’s opening day. Despite repeated appeals by Speaker Rather, the uproar persisted as BJP MLAs demanded that Para’s resolution be scrapped, leading to a prolonged standoff in the Assembly.
