51 Newly Elected MLAs Take Oath in J&K Assembly, Omar Abdullah Retains Ganderbal Seat
Srinagar, Oct 21: A total of 51 newly elected Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) have taken their oath of office in the Jammu and Kashmir legislative assembly on Monday. The remaining members are expected to take their oaths shortly.
The ceremony was conducted under the supervision of pro-tem speaker Mubarak Gul, who administered the oath to the elected representatives. Among those who took the oath were Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary, and prominent leaders such as J&K People’s Conference Chairman Sajad Gani Lone, Congress leader Nizamuddin Bhat and National Conference leader Altaf Kaloo.
In a significant announcement, pro-tem speaker Gul confirmed that Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has chosen to retain the Ganderbal seat, resigning from Budgam, where he had also secured a victory. Abdullah had contested from both constituencies and emerged victorious in each.
With the assembly now shaping up, the focus shifts towards the next phase of governance in Jammu and Kashmir.
