Tragedy Strikes As Boat Capsizes In Srinagar: Six Lives Lost
Srinagar, April 16: A tragic incident unfolded in central Kashmir’s Srinagar district on Tuesday morning, claiming the lives of six individuals as a boat capsized in the river Jhelum.
According to a top police officer, the unfortunate incident occurred as a boat sank while ferrying passengers from Gandbal to Batwara in central Kashmir’s Srinagar district. Swift action was taken by the river police, leading to the rescue of all passengers, who were promptly transported to a nearby hospital.
Authorities including the Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir, Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, and Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Srinagar were present at Gandbal Batwara, overseeing the rescue operations conducted by the Srinagar Administration, State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and the Police.
Tragically, despite rescue efforts, six individuals were declared dead upon arrival at the hospital.
A top police official confirmed that a case has been registered in connection with the incident, and further investigation is underway to determine the circumstances leading to the boat’s capsizing.
