T20 Winter Cricket Championship concludes at Kupwara
Situation of substance abuse is a serious issue all over the country and these vibrant sports  platforms are set up to counter this menace: DC Kupwara
KUPWARA, JAN 11:  In a proactive effort to engage the youth in constructive and healthy activities, the District Administration Kupwara in collaboration with the Department of Youth service and Sports organized Winter Cricket Championship as a pivotal measure to curb the drug menace in the border district. This initiative aligned with the larger vision of the Viksit Bharat Sanklp Yatra , focusing on the holistic development of the nation.
The T-20 winter Winter cricket Championship culminated on Thursday with a colorful closing ceremony after the final match of the tournament was played between  Ganapora  and Kupwara Town at Kupwara Sports Stadium Galizoo Kupwara  where Kupwara town emerged as winner  in a thrilling clash .
The final match witnessed overwhelming participation of youth, cricket lovers, PRIs, officers of the District Administration giving a festive look to the beautiful Galizoo sports stadium.
While speaking on occasion, DC Kupwara, Ms. Ayushi Sudan congratulated the Department of Youth Service and Sports, Kupwara for organizing a successful and a very impressive Winter Cricket Championship.
DC thanked the participating teams for their spirit of sportsmanship and enthusiasm during the tournament.
She expressed gratitude to PRIs, Officers of district administration, spectators, and public at large for their support and Cooperation in making this event a huge success in Kupwara district.
The Deputy Commissioner said on the occasion that the situation of substance abuse is a serious issue all over the country and these vibrant sports  platforms are set up to counter this menace.
She said that youth participating in sports  are the true ambassadors to overcome this challenge of drug menace.
DC on the occasion added that despite cold weather conditions this Tournament witnessed healthy competition and the sportsmanship spirit of the youth was amazing.
DC further said “I expect this spirit will continue in future  also”.
She expressed her gratitude to the media fraternity of Kupwara district for giving wide publicity to this tournament which had a dual purpose of promoting sports culture  and countering substance abuse.
 DC in presence of Vice Chairman, District Development Council Kupwara, Haji Farooq Mir, and DDC Member Drugmulla, Adv.Amina  presented   trophies to the winner and runner up teams. Both the teams were awarded with Trophies, Cash Prize of ₹50000/- and ₹25,000/- respectively.
Final match was attended by ADC Kupwara, GH.Nabi Bhat, DYSSO Kupwara, Zahoor Ahmad Bhat and other officers of district adminstration.
 It is in place to mention here that recognizing the critical role, sports play in fostering discipline, teamwork and physical well-being, the Winter Cricket Championship was aimed to channel the energy of the youth into a positive direction and to  create a sense of camaraderie among the youth, diverting their attention from the perils of substance abuse.
 The championship witnessed overwhelming response as158 teams from different panchayats, across the district participated in the tournament with great enthusiasm, passion and velour, promoting inclusivity and collaboration among diverse groups within the district from Karnah to Langate.
This championship, aligned with the VBSY proved a great success as a platform, encouraging families and residents to come together in support of the young talents and fostering a sense of pride and belonging to the nation.
The  innovative idea of Deputy Commissioner Kupwara regarding  Integration of championship with VBSY featuring Workshops, seminars and informational materials at the venues to educate participants and spectators about the detrimental effects of drug abuse on both individual lives and the community at large made  it a huge success.
