Corruption Scandal Unveiled: ACB Initiates Action Against Manasbal Development Authority Officials

The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has launched legal proceedings against key officials of the Manasbal Development Authority, alleging abuse of power and embezzlement of government funds. The case, filed under FIR No. 03/2024, implicates the former Chief Executive Officer Zulfiqar Mohammad Khan, along with Executive Engineer Bashir Ahmad Baba and Assistant Executive Engineer Zahoor Ahmad Sheikh, as well as several contractors.

Official said that, the investigation, prompted by concerns over financial irregularities, uncovered a series of questionable practices. It was revealed that during the fiscal years 2016-17, 2017-18, and 2018-19, the Authority executed numerous civil works, with a significant portion subject to unlawful extensions and irregular approval processes. These actions, allegedly orchestrated by the accused officials, resulted in substantial losses to the state treasury and undue financial gains for contractors.

Expert inspections conducted by the ACB’s engineering team scrutinized the executed works and associated records, aiding in the assessment of losses and the attribution of liabilities. Following the registration of the FIR, search warrants were issued, leading to meticulously conducted searches at multiple locations linked to the accused individuals. Incriminating documents were seized during these searches, providing further evidence for the ongoing investigation.

The revelation of this corruption scandal underscores the need for stringent accountability measures within government agencies. As the investigation progresses, the ACB remains committed to uncovering the full extent of wrongdoing and ensuring that those responsible are held accountable for their actions. Stay tuned for further updates on this developing story. (PTK)
