‘Money, family and office do not matter in Kashmir, anything can happen here anytime’ says Sameera Fazili’s sister
Srinagar, Jan 24: A Kashmiri-origin woman, Sameera Fazili, is among the 20 Indian-Americans in the new Joe Biden administration in the United States.
Fazili’s cousin Mubeen Shah was among the people held in Jammu and Kashmir after August 5, 2019, when BJP led government abrogated Jammu and Kashmir’s special status article 370 and 35A, Shah had been detained under the stringent Public Safety Act (PSA).
Fazili’s sister Yousra Fazili, a human rights lawyer, had testified at the November 2019 US Congressional hearing over J&K.
Yousra had said she and Fazili had dialed friends in the State Department after Shah’s arrest on August 8, 2019. It was only then that the family discovered that he was being held in Agra, she had said.
However, he was later released in December 2019 and the PSA Act imposed on him was also removed.
On Shah’s arrest, Sameera’s sister, Yousra Fazili had said that money, family and office do not matter in Kashmir, anything can happen here anytime. Yusra had said that army personnel in Kashmir are raiding the house even at night and taking the young boys from the beds.
Yousra had said that the arrest of her cousin brother is also an example of this. In a conversation with the Indian Express, Yousra said that my brother was neither a politician nor a demand for independence. (PTK)
