Suspected militants shot at a police officer in Shopian
Shopian, Feb 1: Suspected militants fired upon a policeman in Amshipora village of South Kashmir’s Shopian district.
Reports said that pistol-borne suspected militants targeted a policeman and fired upon him in his native village.
The policeman identified as Shabir Ahmed Wagay sustained injuries and was shifted 92 Base Srinagar Army Hospital for advanced treatment.
The village was cordoned off after the incident, and random searches were carried out.
The victim policeman was posted at Wachi Shopian.
While divulging information about the incident police said that Assistant Sub-Inspector Shabir Ahmad was shot at by the militants while he was coming back from the mosque after prayers in his native place Amishijipora area of Shopian. In this incident, he had received gunshot injuries and was immediately evacuated to a nearby hospital where he has been referred to Srinagar hospital for specialized treatment. The condition of the said injured official is said to be stable.
Police have registered a case in this regard under relevant sections of law. The investigation is in progress and officers continue to work to establish the full circumstances of this incident. (KNT)
