Power Scarcity: Situation turns ugly as curtailment hours mount in Kashmir; No sigh of relief visible at present

Present scenario to continue till situation improves outside: CE KPDCL

Srinagar, Apr 23 : The power paucity has been giving tough times to the people across the Valley as the situation has turned ugly on the ground with people complaining that from pesky power cuts, the department has resorted to snap the electricity for hours together.

However, the concerned department is unaware of improvement in the power scenario, saying that nothing can be stated as of now.

The local consumers from different districts of Kashmir said that the present power scenario is worsening with each passing day, thus leaving them to lurch at large.

Adil Ahmad, a resident from Srinagar outskirts said that the electricity remained snapped since the wee hours of this morning, leaving the consumers to suffer.

He added that the situation has worsened from the last couple of days. “The electricity was being snapped periodically for one hour. But, now the people are being forced to reel under darkness for hours together,” he said.

Ahmad also said that it is for the time that such a mess is being witnessed and the department doesn’t bother to take requisite measures to put an end to the sufferings of people. “In the ongoing holy month of Ramadan, the people who are in Aietiqaaf, known as Mu’attaqif have been facing tremendous hardships as the inverters too have gone down due to the absence of electricity,” he added.

Chief Engineer, Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited (KPDCL), Javaid Yousuf Dar said that nothing can’t be said as of now as the demand has increased to a large extent outside.

“The present power scenario would continue in Kashmir. Until and unless the situation improves outside, the situation would remain unchanged. The electricity demand has increased outside, which has resulted in power curtailments here,” he said, adding that the present curtailments would continue—(KNO)
