No road link to this Handwara village, woman gives birth en route to hospital
Handwara, Nov 12 (KNS): A pregnant woman in Bamdogar village of Handwara on Friday gave birth to a baby en route to a hospital after she was carried on shoulder to the hospital, as the village lacks proper road connectivity, locals alleged here on Saturday.
The local residents said, that the area has been without road connectivity for the past many decades, creating hardships for the entire population.
“The present status of the road is totally dilapidated as roads are filled with potholes due to substandard construction material used in its construction,” they said, adding that a flash flood or an untimely rain is a reason enough to expose it’s worst situation.
“On Friday, villagers carried a pregnant woman on their shoulders to reach the roadside to arrange transport to the hospital. However, due to the long distance, it took them hours to reach the roadside. Due to the delay, the woman had to go through severe pain and finally gave birth on the roadside,” they alleged.
Agitated residents said it was high time that the government provides a proper road connectivity to the village along with transport facilities.
They said a road was one of the basic things required to ensure development of an area and the government should make efforts in this regard. “In emergency cases, people face a lot of inconveniences in taking patients to the hospital,” said Sheikh Jamsheed, a social activist.
Meanwhile, the locals appealed to LG Manoj Sinha to provide health facility to this village and direct the concerned authorities to macdamize the road.
Despite several attempts, executive engineer R&B Handwara, Suhail Ahmed refused to talk on the matter.
“I’m busy somewhere, can’t talk right now,” he said and hung up the phone. (KNS)
