Misappropriation of food grains: Fair Price Shop Dealer suspended, License cancelled

Pattan, Mar 6: Department of Food Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs has held a Fair Price Shop Dealer responsible for misappropriation of food grains in North Kashmir’s Pattan town of Baramulla district. Besides placing the Fair Price Shop Dealer under suspension, his license has also been cancelled.

As reported earlier by news agency Kashmir News Trust, the inhabitants of Baba Gund Mamoosa area of North Kashmir’s Pattan town in a written complaint to Divisional Commissioner Kashmir had claimed that a Fair Price Shop Dealer in league with others have issued illegal ration cards to families that don’t exist in actual while evidences and records are being tampered to save the skin of looters.

“Fair Price Shop Dealer Abdul Hameed MIr at Baba Gund Mamoosa area has fraudulently issued the free ration of PHH ration cards to the non-deserving NPHH. Deserving persons have been ignored and these food grains have been sold at high rates in the market, thus looting the state exchequer in broad day light. These people have illegally shown few individuals married and issued PHH ration cards in their favor, but the irony is that these individuals neither received PHH ration cards nor received ration,” the complainants in their complaint to Divisional Commissioner Kashmir had claimed.

The inhabitants had claimed that one KG of rice for PHH card holder is being sold at Rs 4.50 paisa while as the actual cost is Rs 3.60 Paisa.

Tehsil Supply Officer Pattan conducted the inquiry and held FP Shop Dealer and others responsible for fraud.

Taking cognizance of the inquiry, Director Food Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs has issued an order that reads: “In view of report of TSO Pattan, Vide his letter No.0534 / TSO / PTN dated 29.12.2020, Fair Price Shop license located at Baba Gund Mamosa (Pattan) issued in favor of Abdul Hamid Mir is hereby placed under suspension with immediate effect for alleged misappropriation of food grains.”

Director Food in his order has further stated that the Assistant Director Baramulla shall divert the monthly allocation of foodgrains to nearest Government Ration Depot, so that General rationees of the area does not suffer.

Meanwhile, the complainants while hailing the decision of the department thanked Director Food Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs for conducting free and fair inquiry.   (KNT)
