Congress stages protest in Jammu in support of Chaka Jam, demand roll back of new farm laws
SRINAGAR, FEB 05: The Jammu and Kashmir unit of the Congress on Saturday staged a protest in Jammu in support of Chaka Jam call given by farmers ahe to express solidarity with the ongoing farmers’ agitation and demanded the immediate rollback of the recently introduced farm laws in the country.
J&K Congress president and former minister G A Mir was leading the protest while demanding to take farmers on board.
He said that new law came just to benefit some corporators which can’t be accepted as new laws were brought un parliamentary.
He said that govt is trying to give it some other colour but it is peaceful protest and they must take them on board in which congress is also ready to support.
He said that Indian people living outside India have spirit of India and they have every right to comment on any issue, however, non-locals need not to put their leg in the issue as it is our internal issues
The Congress on Friday extended support to the countrywide ‘chakka jam’ called by farmer unions on February 6, saying party workers will stand shoulder to shoulder with farmers in their protest.
The Congress also hit out at Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar, who defended the three new farm laws and criticised the Opposition while speaking in Rajya Sabha.
Whatever the agriculture minister said was “not only totally bereft of facts” but also “grossly objectionable”, the party claimed.
Farmer unions on Monday had announced ‘chakka jam’ on February 6 when they would block national and state highways for three hours in protest against the internet ban in areas near their agitation sites, harassment allegedly meted out to them by authorities, and other issues. (PTK)
