Roads leading to main venue blocked
Srinagar, Jan 25, KNT: The 73rd R-Day will be celebrated in Kashmir on Wednesday amid tight security, with the main event in the valley being held at Sher-e-Kashmir Cricket Stadium Sonwar Srinagar. The lieutenant governor’s advisor will preside over the function and will take the salute at the march past after unfurling the tri-color.
Contingents of police and other security forces will take part in the parade.
Official sources told news agency Kashmir News Trust that a brief cultural program will be held after the parade to mark the occasion.
R-Day functions will also held at other district headquarters and tehsils of the Valley, the officials said.
Stringent security arrangements have been put in place to ensure that the celebrations pass off peacefully, they said.
They said security forces have been deployed in strength across the Srinagar city while security barricades have been erected along the routes leading to the stadium.
The officials said drones will also be used to maintain a hawk’s eye vigil on any suspicious movement.
As part of the security drill, internet services on mobile devices may temporarily be suspended, however, sources said that mobile internet may run smoothly. (KNT)
